Martin Bolkan

Buxton, North Dakota

is a farmer. He was born in Stjordalen on August 5, 1857. He came to America in 1866 to Rock County, Wisconsin and lived there for seven years. He moved to Worth County Iowa, and then to Traill County, North Dakota in 1880. He settled in Wold Township and has lived there since as a farmer.

His wife, Turi Enrud, is from Krodsherred. They have seven children at home on the farm. Their oldest son Peter C. Bolkan is the Postmaster in Buxton, North Dakota.

I got this information from Bolkan while he worked in his garden. With his fine home and well cultivated farm I knew that he was a capable farmer and is a public spirited man and is simultaneously a good Norwegian and a good American citizen, and is one of the Northwest’s builders and pioneers.
