Edward C. Brekken

Pekin, North Dakota

is the publisher of the "Pekin Budget". He was born in Albert Lea, Minnesota on November 20, 1868. His parents, Kristoffer and Marit Brekken, were both from Lesjeskogen. They emigrated to America in 1868 to Decorah, Iowa and then moved that same year to Albert Lea, Minnesota. They purchased a farm in Wetth County, Iowa in 1877, moved to Nelson County, North Dakota in 1884 and took a homestead in Osego Township. His father is dead and his mother is still alive.

His wife, Amalie Moen, was born in Freeborn County Minnesota of Norwegian parents. They have one foster daughter.

He is Secretary of the Sons of Norway regional society "Luren" and president of Pekin Band, which is known as one of the best Music Corps in the Northwest.
