Nelius G. Eggen

Fargo, North Dakota

was born in Gaarden Eggen near Levanger on September 19, 1853 and emigrated to America in 1882 to La Crosse, Wisconsin. He lived there and in Spring Grove, Minnesota in the spring of 1879. For many years he worked for Deere Plow and in the Farm machinery business. He began his own business in pianos and organs together with his brother Marius Eggen under the company name of Eggen Bros. and has in the last few years received many good pianos and organs that are in many Norwegian homes and churches in the Northwest.

His wife, Nettie B. Olsen, was born in Decorah, Iowa, of Norwegian parents. They have two daughters. Ethel is married to Professor B. G. Martin at the Normal School in Moorhead, Minnesota. Mabel is in the piano business.

Eggen is the treasurer of the Scandinavian - American Bank and has had interests in the bank from its start. He has with his noble, winning and trustworthy personality as well as with his other capabilities contributed greatly to the trust of the Norwegian population in Fargo, North Dakota and the Red River Valley in this bank. In a short time he has grown into one of the Northwest’s largest bankers.
