Erik Helland

Kathryn, North Dakota

was born in Vestnes at Gaarden Helland, on December 4, 1855 and emigrated to America 1884 to Valley City, North Dakota, He took homestead at Sandprairie and has lived there since as a farmer. His homestead farm has now grown to a nice farm of 800 Acres.

His wife, Beret K. Aas, was from Vestnes. She is a sister of Peter Knutson Aas. She died nine years ago. They have twelve children, seven sons and five daughters. His three sons Karl, Magnus and Conrad now operate now the farm. Ole is on a nearby farm. The oldest son, Knut, has a homestead in Montana. Two daughters, Gjertrud and Ethel are at home. Marie is married to J. L. McCumber, and lives on a nearby farm. Martha is married to Jacob Arvis, who operates an automobile business in Kathryn, North Dakota.

was at the Seattle-Exhibition along with his brother, Henrik Helland, and Peter Knutsen Aas. He went on the trip on the Northern Pacific, and returned through Canada. He was also on a trip to Portland, Oregon, but otherwise he has lived peacefully on his farm. He is a quiet and kind man who is a pleasue to visit with.
