Syver Quam

Pekin, North Dakota

is a farmer. He was born in Lesjeskogen on May 25, 1841 and emigrated to America in 1869 to Albert Lea, Minnesota along with his parents, Syver Quam and Oline Jordesenget, who were both from Lesjeskogen. His father is dead and his mother lives in Freeborn County Minnesota. Quam came to Nelson County in 1882. He took a homestead in Bergens Township and has lived as a farmer there since.

His wife, Cecilie Torbergsen, was born in Tromso Town. They have twelve children. Olaf is a smith in Pekin, North Dakota. Theodor has farm at Fort Totten Reservation, North Dakota. Lauritz is a painter in Pekin, North Dakota. Josef has a farm near Pekin, North Dakota. Edwin is a student at Concordia College. Marie is married to Oliver Enstad and they have a farm near Pekin, North Dakota. Kristine is married to Peder Holm, who has a farm near Pekin, North Dakota. Ella is married to Oscar Bue who is the elevator manager in Pekin, North Dakota. Sofie is married to Svend Haugesjaa who is on the farm with Quam. Laura holds English School.

Quam has had several positions of trust in the Sons of Norway regional society "Luren". He has been on the school board, town board and is one of districts most active men.
