Griggs County Post No. 3379 was organized in October, 1935 as a Chapter of the national "Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States." Lester J. Christianson was its first Commander. There were 16 World War I veterans of this area listed as charter members. It grew steadily till following World War II it had over 100 names on its roster.
The Post has participated actively in projects of the national organization including: Sale of "Buddy Poppies" each year, maintenance of a National Home at Eaton Rapids, Michigan for veteran's widows and orphans; participation in observance of Memorial, Veterans' days, etc.; various youth activities as soft ball, bowling, marble tournaments; assisting at military funerals for deceased veterans; financial aid has been given to needy veterans; donations have been given to worthy causes, including $500 to the local hospital.
The Post has just purchased the Thompson building next to the Sentinel-Courier to be used as club rooms.
The present officers are: A. O. Johnson, Commander; Max Borchert, Vice-Commander; Larry Hinschberger, Quartermaster, Alex Armstrong, Adjutant, and Clarence Stone, Victor Stromme and Leonard McCulloch, trustees.
