Portland, North Dakota
is a farmer. He was born in Aasen on January 8, 1855 and emigrated to America in 1880 to St. Croix County, Wisconsin lived are in nine years. He came to Traill County North Dakota in 1889. He purchased a farm in Roseville Township, four miles south of Portland, North Dakota and has lived there since as a farmer.
His wife, Anne Johnsen, is from Stjordalen. They have eight children, five daughters and three sons. The oldest son, Johan J. Grinde, graduated from Red Wing Seminar and is now on the farm. Benjamin Grinde graduated from Mayville Normal School and is the school superintendent in Calvin, North Dakota. Two daughters hold English School and one daughter and one son go to the Normal School in Mayville, North Dakota.
