was born in America of Norwegian parents in Winnebago County, Wisconsin, on February 4, 1853. His father, Mons Larsen, and his mother, Gertrud Larsen, came to America from Voss in 1839 to Chicago, Illinois. They came later to the Rock River Settlement.
Monson came to Fargo in 1883. He started a trunk factory in 1900 and now has one of the largest businesses of this type in the Northwest.
His wife is an American woman. His oldest son, Leigh Monson, is a Justice of the Peace in Fargo, North Dakota. Another son, Lloyd Monson, is a professor at the High School in Dickinson, North Dakota. A third son, Fern Monson, goes to Fargo College.
