Cooperstown was named for the Cooper Brothers, Rollin C. Cooper and Thomas J. Cooper, were bonanza farmers.
They have a very rich history in the Cooperstown area and a lot of information can be found about them in various books and newspaper articles.

James Baker was the son of David Baker and Phebe Wilcox. He was born on March 18, 1779 in Morristown, Hanover, New Jersey. He died at Lake Geneva, Wisconsin on October 19, 1851. He married Elizabeth Price who was born on March 20, 1780 in Morristown, New Jersey and died on October 24, 1780 at Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. They were married in 1799 in Morristown, New Jersey. They had a child named Hannah Caroline Baker.
Hannah Caroline Baker was the daughter of James Baker and Elizabeth Price. She was more commonly called Caroline Baker. She was born on June 15, 1807 at Bridport, Vermont and died on February 6, 1862 at Lima, Washtenaw County, Michigan. She married Thomas Jonathan Cooper who was born on February 22, 1804 at Shoreham, Vermont and died on January 26, 1889 at Devalan, Wisconsin. They were married on December 22, 1825 at Shoreham Vermont.
Thomas Jonathan Cooper and Caroline Baker had 11 children.
